WAYS OF TEACHING

As I was sitting at a coffee shop one Sunday in October working on my lesson plans for the next week, a stranger glanced over and took careful notice of what I was up to. After we exchanged pleasantries, he then asked the loaded question, so why did you decide to become a teacher? On the inside I started to groan. This question can be so complicated and I never understand the kind of answer people are expecting. After some careful thought, I finally replied by stating I consider myself a well-rounded individual, dabbling in multiple areas, and I want to help shape and craft other well-rounded individuals.

And of course I love kids.

I believe learning is such a powerful skill that requires various influences.  As human learners, we crave engagement. We want to be hooked by some new concept in a mode that makes sense for the new material. When I think about the multiple learning theories that have been explored, researched, and practiced, I know they all influence my learning. In the same way, I believe my teaching reflects how I learn. I believe my students are influenced by all learning theories in some form in my classroom. Below you will find an infographic I created to further explain my beliefs and how they influence my practice.
